I Why to choose the Stratus ftServer technology?
ftServer is based on a "fault-tolerant" technology, more
convenient in many ways than for example "clustering".
I Clustering is a way how to connect two or more
computers into one logical unit, when in case of malfunction of the main
computer these two computers take over the function of the main one without any
delay or data loss. This however means to have physically two and more
computers, to have the same system configured in them and to maintain this
all always mutually identical. The purchase and above all the maintenance costs
are not low.
I Fault-tolerant technology has been known for a
long time; however, it has belonged to the so called "high computing".
This technology is based on the idea, that you have only one device, comprising
from 2 to 4 processors performing the absolutely identical operations at the
same time. This requires indispensably the cooperation of the producer of
processor units as for example INTEL, so that the supplied CPU could have the
required characteristics. Then, a very fast interface must be created for the
connection of these "computer units" into a compact device that seems
to its environment, i.e. to its users, to be only one “usual” server.
I Installation and
maintenance of this server is easy, as it can be configured in a standard way and there’s no need to
modify all applications running on the respective platform.
I In case of malfunction in a
given unit, this unit is put out of operation and the notification utilities
alert the administrator or a remote supervisor to a system irregularity. The
users, however, do not notice any change or slowdown in operations performed on
this server.
I Most of components and
units (incl. CPU) can be changed in running, i.e. without any delay or downtime of the
server.
I ftServer with WINDOWS 2000 is offered currently
in cooperation with MICROSOFT Company. Its availability achieves fantastic
values, i.e. in course of one year, the downtime of Stratus ftServers is
only about 158 minutes in all
installations in the world! Do the servers that you use have such reliability
today or does the time, for which your employees, partners and clients cannot approach
your information server, make any difference for you?
